A Toast to the Darkness

A Toast to the Darkness

To the light at the end of the tunnels

To the light at the top of the pits

To the deepest and darkest pits of hell

Into which we fall

To the darkness before the light

To the sunrise after the night

To the tears we shed when we finally reach the end

To the people we become and

To the people we were

It gets better

But usually it gets worse first

To the perseverance of ourselves

To those who reach out a hand

To lead us out of our personal hells

To all this I give a toast

Drink deep the waters of life

May you always feel the sunshine

Even though you won’t

Even though you’ll want to die sometimes

Thank God for those nights

For those deep dark pits

For without the darkness

The light has no meaning

And the light is always sweeter

After the pit
