The More That I Try

Hooded figure facing a winding staircase in a ruined building

The more that I try

The less that I can

The best version of me just doesn’t seem to be enough

Every day I’m trying to be better than the last

Yet here I am falling for the same pitfalls

Time and time again

Well, I took what I could and gave what I had and yet

It never seems to be enough

Every day brings forth new challenges and old ones

Yet I fail the old and surpass the new

So, what am I supposed to do

When every day seems to bring an old failure back up

When all I want to do is succeed but all I do is fail

Time and time again

I feel like I missed the boat

Like I was asleep when they were handing out self-control and will power

Yet here I sit with a willpower that enabled me to survive when all was set against me

Yet I lack the self-control to implement it properly

The more that I try the more that I seem to fail

I’m a paradox unto myself

I don’t understand why I am the way that I am

I have so much potential yet I seem to squander it

Who am I to be in the end

I never want to give up trying but I want to finally succeed

And beat back all my old problems while galloping past my new ones
