Monsters used to live under your bed and in your closet
Now they’re walking around on the street and sitting in places of power
Speaking with their honeyed words
Waiting to spring their traps filled with poisonous barbs
Like a Venus Flytrap they attract you and snap their mouth closed
Bringing us all into a world of pain and misery
Tell me when did the monsters flee from under my bed and run out into the streets
When did they give up their horrible visage
And put on masks of men
When and why did we put an idol into our hands while leaving the bible in the nightstand
They lurk around every corner waiting to snatch us up and lead us astray
They speak with their honeyed words
All while spouting poison
I won’t let the world change me
I won’t let the world make me fear
Even while the monsters roam the streets and the seats of power
The monsters no longer try to hide
They just try to disguise their worst aspects
Under a sheen of virtue
They twist the truth and the lie
Until all we’re left with is muddied water
Harboring disease and death
Maybe I can’t change this world
Maybe I can’t out every monster and kick them back under the bed
But I won’t let this world change me
