Life Just Happens

Wooden sign with 'Life just happens' on a sandy beach overlooking ocean waves

We make our plans and we arrange our lives around them

But life doesn’t happen according to our plans it just happens

As it happens always at least partially out of our control

Sometimes completely and utterly out of our control

We can choose to fight it with all our might

But that’s like fighting a riptide by swimming straight back to shore

All you’ll do is tire yourself out and drown

You can’t fight life by swimming directly against it you’ve got to cut across the grain

And swim parallel to the current that threatens to take you out into the dep ocean

Then once you’re out of the current taking you, you can swim back to the shore and safety

Life just happens regardless of our plans and despite them

Life just happens regardless of your plans and dreams

You can keep treading water till you’re blue in the face but just treading water just trying to stay afloat

Will accomplish nothing you’ve got to make a swim for it

Welcome to life currents dragging you far out from the shore

Far from your comfort zones

Where it will drag you kicking and screaming towards your inevitable end

Welcome to the deep end

Where there are no safety lines

Where the waves raise high and threaten to drown

Where the only way to survive is to swim either with the currents or across them
