Pessimism used to be my nature expect the worst and hope for the best
Those were my bywords, my bylaws
I never called it pessimism though I called it realism instead it was fatalism
Now I look forward to the new day with optimism
Knowing beyond the shadow of a doubt that there are brighter and better days ahead
When it comes to people I struggle with pessimism still
I guess I haven’t truly escaped its clutches
It’s an ongoing battle one I’ll never truly finish but it’s one of the easiest battles I face
To keep myself from becoming the person I used to be
It’s tough though cause the worlds on fire
Prompting me to become something of a forest ranger
Hoping against hope
Shouting from the rooftops that it doesn’t have to be this way
You don’t have to drown in your pessimism which is what pessimism seeks to do
To drown you in its infinite sorrows
In its unspeakable depths
It grabs you and tries to drown you in fatalism
That’s why I turned my back on it
Optimism tries to lift you up into hope
And shows you a better way
Yeah, pessimism used to be my nature so did hate
And being an asshole
But I’m not like that anymore
I don’t want to go back down that road
And changing my thoughts from doom and gloom to hope and joy is one way to do that
Pessimism used to be my nature but not anymore
Now its optimism even when it’s a struggle
