You were meant to set the dark on fire
You were meant to be a shining light in the darkness
Instead, you’ve shrunken yourself to fit in someone else’s box
You have cut off pieces of yourself you loved to fit someone else’s idea
Of what and who you should be
Whether for love or acceptance you have given away parts of yourself to be what someone else wanted from you
The sun doesn’t ask permission to shine
The moon doesn’t require permission to light up the dark
And neither should you
Set the dark on fire be your authentic self
Others opinions be damned
Be the you, you were always meant to be
Before life told you to be another way
Write as your soul sings and cries
Stop dimming yourself and making yourself less to make others comfortable
In their own shallow dimensions
Set fire to the dark and rise from the ashes like a phoenix
