I’m Not just An Island

Tropical islands connected by multiple glowing bridges over turquoise sea

Mankind isn’t meant to go through life alone

Even the loneliest wolf dreams of companionship

We aren’t meant to be an island all unto ourselves surrounded by ocean

At the very least we’re meant to be an archipelago

A collection of islands in close contact all within reach

Most people tend to be homes in a village or town surrounded by people friends and family

I’m more of an archipelago than anything

An island with loose connections to others

Since I need more time to myself than most

I’m an introvert and I like and need my alone time

But I need my people time too

If I get too much alone time, I’m not happy either and seek out companionship

Am I a paradox an island that can’t always stand to be alone

No, I’m just a person with a need for connection that’s why

I tend to think of myself as an archipelago

Because I’m still in reach of others but far enough away that I can withdraw into myself

I long to be more than an archipelago but I don’t know how

I’m not sure how to become more a member of a village

I don’t know how to make that transition I long for

So, maybe I’ll stay an island for now while I work on that

Maybe one day I won’t be an island or an archipelago, but I don’t know

Only time will tell
