“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
– Dr. Seuss
Living in the present is so important and yet so difficult
It’s so easy to look forward to the future so much that you miss out on the present moment
Or to dwell on something that happened that you miss
But you so rarely realize the importance of the moments that happen to you
As they happen
What might be one of your most precious memories
May pass by you with barely a glance as you stare at the future or the past
Or dwell within your own mind mulling over nothing important
While the beautiful moments that happen slip by like sand through your fingers
And all you’re left with is the leftover beach sand that’s stuck to your fingers
Leaving you with so little to look back upon fondly
Pay attention lest you miss the moments that you’ll treasure in the future
The present is slippery and requires your full attention
Lest you miss it
Nostalgia draws you in and traps you like a spider in its web
And the future draws you in with dreams and plans
Both are seductive and wily
While the present can seem so bland but that’s where the treasures lie
