How come I always seem to let you down
I always seem to fail
Just when I’m on the cusp of greatness
I trip myself up
I never seem to be able to achieve what I want
I always seem to let you down
Tell me how do I get things right
When all I seem to do is get it wrong
How do I climb that mountain
When I seem to have forgotten my ropes, harness
And climbing axe
How do I get back into your good graces
How do I find my way back to you
Time and time again I fail you
Time and time again I fuck it all up
Yet every time you welcome me back with open arms
Only to leave me wondering when you’ll stop
You say you remove my sins from me
As far as the east is from the west
But I have a hard time believing it
It’s so much easier to frame you in my own limited understanding
And expect you to get tired of me
And leave like a person would
To say that’s the last time
And wash your hands of me
Saying not my problem not my responsibility
Like Pontius Pilate did with you
But you never do
Life would be so much easier if I did not have to strive to be better
And could just wallow in my worst base instincts
But that’s not what I’m called to and
Not what you died for
So even though I know I’ll continue to let you down
I’ll keep trying and strive to be better
Because i want to be better
Not just for me
Or for you
But because I want to show how life can be better for others
I want to be your light shining in the darkness
So, I’ll keep on climbing
With bleeding fingers
Knowing I’ve got the best safety harness and rope in the world
I’ve got you Jesus
