I am the shield you left behind
I wield the sword you left behind
I was not prepared for your abrupt disappearance from my life
But at the same time, you prepared me well
I wield the sword you left behind
Forged out of Kindness, love, cheerful service, and the desire to protect
With this sword you left behind
Your legacy
I and your other sons will change the world
Each in our own ways
I will forge a new path for myself
Using the sword, you gave
I will cleave a way through the bullshit of this life
Of the lies told and sometimes believed
That there is no hope
That there are no brighter days
That there is no forgiveness
That you can never get better
And that you should be ashamed if you’re not okay
Using the Sword you left me I will change this world for the better
Because that’s who you taught me to be
I will defend the weak
And I will teach hope to the hopeless
I will be a light in the darkness
To those stumbling about in the trenches of their own mind
Lost and without hope
I will be the sword my father left behind
I will continue to make him proud
Until the day I hear him say again “Good Job Son I’m proud of you and I Love You!”
Dedicated to my Father Jimmy Francis
If you didn’t know my dad and want an idea of who he was i recommend you read the Everest Triptych linked here
