Finding the Right Words: A Poet’s Struggle to Speak

What would you say

If you could find the right words

What would you dare to say to the people

You struggle to speak to

What would you do if you could find the right words

To make everything okay

To fix all the broken

Mistakes

And broken hearts

You’ve left behind

What would be the words you’d say to a hurting heart

I listen really well

But I struggle to speak the right words

Its really funny

For a poet

To struggle to speak

To stumble over his words

To never quite know what to say

But to be able to fill a page

With the true feelings of my heart

To be able to move someone with the words on a page

Though they never see my face

Or hear my voice

But I struggle to speak out loud

I’ve been so misunderstood

I’ve been shouted down and counted out

So many times that I find it easier

With the written word

So what would you say if you had the heart of a poet

What would be the words you spoke

The words you wrote
