We were never promised a life free of adversity
At least not by God
Some people may have promised you this
But they were lying through their teeth
Adversity and all its attendant troubles and problems
Are a fact of life
Through good times and bad
Adversity follows us
Hounding on our heels like an ankle biting Chihuahua
It is how we react to the adversity
That shapes us that makes us
Into who we are meant to be
Do we bend or do we break
Do we falter
Or do we press on
Do we rely on God the father
And believe that his promises shall come to pass
Or do we rely only on ourselves
And watch as all out dreams crumble
Into the dust and stone, they are made from
These are the questions you must ask yourself
The questions that take deep searching sometimes to find an answer
I am going through a time of extreme adversity now
With my dad going through stage 4 cancer
Hoping against hope that the chemo works
We sold our house but can’t get the new one onto the land
Due to issues with retirement pay verification
So, we are effectively homeless living in a pop-up trailer and sleeping on relatives’ couches
But as I grow through this
I find myself drawing nearer to God and the people I know I can rely on
I find hope in the words of a friend
And hopes and dreams again in the Bible
So, I embark again on this journey of adversity hoping it draws me closer to you Lord and to my family
So, I soldier on
Its what I was built for
To never quite stop to never give up
So, I soldier on into your ever loving arms
Hoping to find the peace I seek.
