Keeping up

What does keeping up look like

Sometimes it’s keeping up appearances

Keeping up with the masks you wear

Sometimes it’s just doing everything

You can to stay above water

For some it’s keeping up with the Jones’s

Which I’ve never understood

For so long it’s just been keeping my head above water

But now it’s been keeping up with new promises

New goals

Reading 2 books a month

Reading my Bible everyday

Losing weight and working out

Avoiding sexual immorality

All new promises

All new goals

Keeping up has been tough

And I fail time and time again

But God is with me in my new goals and promises

And if God is with me who can stand against

So I rely on my creator

My perfect Heavenly Father

Who has already seen me through so much

And will see me through so much more

All he requires is that I love like him and never quit trying

All things I’m working on

He’s not content to let me stay the same

And neither am I for stagnation is death

And keeping up requires constant change

And bettering of yourself

So I’ll keep keeping on

And persevere

Until my death.
