My Old Heart

Hello my old heart

How have you been

It’s been so long since you’ve

Beat with the pounding

Of Young love

It’s been so long since I gave you away

It’s been so long and

I’ve built so many walls

Tall and strong

For years I added stones

Now I realize they

Leave you cold and gray

So stone by stone

I’ve been trying to tear the walls down

So they’re not impenetrable

From fortress walls

To walls between plots of land

In old Europe

Big enough to mark boundaries

But small enough to step over

I’m preparing you for

If and or when I find love again

So I’ll continue tearing these

Walls down

Stone by stone

For I don’t like me with walls around my heart

I miss the me that loved

Wild and carefree

That could love with all I was

So we’ll tear down the stones

So that one day I might give you away again

For these walls don’t keep you safe

They just put up a deterrent

One I no longer wish for

So hello my old heart

Let the sunrise beat warmly down upon you

And become warm and vibrant again
