What did you think would happen
When you placed your hand on that hot stove
Even though you’d done it before
What were you trying to do
Knowing you would get burned
Why did you go back to that situation
Knowing in your heart or mind that the outcome wouldn’t be different
What did you think would happen
Maybe you didn’t listen or heed everyone else’s advice thinking this time would be different
Even though everything points to the opposite
What did you think would happen when you held your hand to that flame
Maybe the worst lessons must be learned twice
Before it drills through our thick skulls
You should have read the writing on the wall
Had it transcribed and translated like Belshazzar
Our days are numbered and counted by God
So why waste it on impossible outcomes
What did you think would happen
Don’t place your hand into the flame knowing you’ll get burned
