There’s caves inside of my heart deep and black
I’m scared to let anyone into my heart because I’m scared that they’ll be afraid of the caves in my heart
Hidden away and overgrown they hold all my secrets
I guess I’m afraid of what I may find inside
I need someone to grow flowers in the deepest darkest places of me
But I despair at the thought of finding them
People my age are jaded from swiping right to left and left to right
It’s a competition to be seen and heard by the men
And a deluge of matches and requests for women
All the while we’re all hiding the caves in our hearts
Hoping no one shines a torch into the darkness
But hoping against hope to find someone who grows flowers inside the deepest darkest parts of us
We live in a world filled with half-truths and whole lies
Everyone putting forth a picture perfect version of themselves on social media and dating apps
While I bare myself like Dorian Grays portrait
Warts, scars, deformities, and all
Because as terrifying as it is there’s a reward to being fully known
To not hiding behind a mask
To bare the caves and shine a light into them
Is as terrifying as it is exhilarating
But so many people are afraid to be fully known that they hide so much of themselves
Whether they are afraid of ridicule or rejection matters not
Because to hide yourself and not be fully known and accepted by your own choice
Is one of the worst you could make
For you are denying yourself one of the most rewarding experiences one can have
I wish to be fully known and explored
I wish to have someone go spelunking in the depths of my soul and grow flowers there
And in turn I want to do the same
So that together we may become a garden bountiful and beautiful.
