I see you there with your thousand-yard stare
You might as well be shell shocked
You say you’ve heard it all
That you have no more reason to go on
You’re lost in the trenches and can’t see a way out anymore
You’ve heard it all from those with the best of intentions
But ultimately if they’ve never been there their words are meaningless
You need someone who’s been there who’s lived through the hell of a war called World War Me
You’re stuck behind enemy lines running through a maze with no hope left
Waiting and wishing on a prayer
You don’t want to give up but you don’t see another way out
Nothing else has panned out
Let me give you some advice
Find one thing no matter how stupid it may seem to live for
Whether that be your pet a movie you want to see
Just something worth waiting for or surviving for
If you haven’t tried getting on medication yet try it
It might take a while to work but it’s a lifesaver
Therapy can seem like a waste of time, but they can help so much
Yes, they’re paid to listen to you but sometimes just someone listening to you can mean the world
Talking is always the first step
Reaching out and saying staying alive is hard right now I need some help
Is one of the toughest and hardest things you will ever do
But it’s the first step to truly living and not just surviving
When you’re lost in the trenches you take any help you can get
Being lost in the trenches is a temporary thing
I won’t sit here and lie to you the temporary thing may be months, or it may be years
There will be times where something happens and you see yourself launched back into the trenches
But it won’t last you made it out once and you can do it again
The trenches are temporary and there’s bright green meadows and sun filled days ahead
There will still be storms and trenches ahead sometimes
But they are a paltry thing compared to the ones you find yourself in now
The ones ahead are but a pale imitation of the current truth
Life finds a way and you are full of life even though you don’t feel like it
Because you found this and are looking for help and hope
You’re a flower pushing up through the cracks of the sidewalk not some delicate orchard
You’re a dandelion taking root anywhere and refusing to give up
You’re a war veteran leading the new boots through the horrors of war grizzled and tough
But tender and caring where you need to be
You are a survivor now you just need to carry on a little more through the trenches
So, you can thrive not just survive.
Once you get out take your knowledge and your experience and help another person
Not just survive but thrive.
