Finding Joy in the Rain: A Personal Reflection

I’ve always loved the rain

The pitter patter of rain on a tin roof

Or the canvas of a tent

Though I guess its nylon now

The gentle washing of the landscape

The torrential downpour

That wreaks devastation and turns everything into mud

Most people find it dreary

And depressing

I find it calming and peaceful

Even and sometimes especially thunderstorms

I love standing outside and watching and feeling the rain come down

The clouds forming and churning the lightning arcing back and forth

I love the rain

The renewal of the soil the heavens opening up

And pouring down life giving liquid

Even as the storm rages outside and the rain

Buffets against the house I’m reminded of happier times weathering out storms playing cards

In a tent with my parents and my older brother as the storm raged outside while

We camped on Mount Willimena

For me the rain has always been joyful

A peaceful thing to listen to even when the storms rage and thunder

The rain is a simple joy to me even when it rains for days it’s a constant pleasure to me

Where others find rainy skies dreary and depressing

I enjoy them it renews my soul just as it renews the ground

Let the rain come and let the rain fall upon me as I dance in the rain

I especially love the rain and the beach when combined

The treasures it brings to shore the sounds of the rain and the waves mixing

The smell of the salt spray mixing with the petrichor

It recalls memories of camping on the beach, of happier times

I have so many happy memories associated with the rain

So, I can’t be depressed when it rains like some are because it brings flood of memories with it
