Definition Eigenschauung: n. the degree to which your view of the world is warped by your own presence in it, whether you’re a stunning beauty who assume all strangers are chatty, a bully who thinks the world is perpetually at war, or a quivering leaf who walks around in an artificial cloud of deference; the awareness that although you’d like to think you perceive things clearly and objectively, you’ve never felt the vibe of a room that doesn’t happen to have you in it. From the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows
You think your view of the world is unbiased
But it’s tainted by you
You’ve never seen the vibe of a space without you
Everywhere you go is changed by your presence
For better or worse
You color the world around you
To borrow from the definition you warp everything you touch
In subtle ways
You leave your fingerprint everywhere you go
By the very nature of your existence you will never know what the world
Would be like without you
It has been forever changed and will be always changed just by the nature of your own existence
You will never truly be able to see the full effect of your own presence
Even the most astute and observant among us will never be able to see without the aid of cameras and forethought
With complete surprise on those your springing your presence on the full effect that your own presence has
If that’s not an obscure sorrow I don’t know what would classify as one.
