Suicide

There’s this assumption that people who suffer from depression are scared or cowards. I’m sure you’ve heard someone say they took the cowards way out about someone who committed suicide. I tell you empathetically that no one who suffers from depression is a coward. To those who have never suffered from it you can’t understand. Every single day is a battle against yourself and the feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness inside of you. We who have been there know that every day we fight a battle with the demons inside of us. Every day you get up and continue to face life you win a battle. You are brave. You’re like a soldier. Now understand me here you’re not special forces you’re just run of the mill infantry but what you’ve done for years is spectacular. For days, weeks, months, years, maybe even decades you have been a soldier stranded hundred of miles behind enemy lines. You lost your weapon years ago but you continue to fight sometimes with just a stick and every day you fight some days you lose ground some days you gain it. Sometimes the jungle and the smoke is so thick you feel like there’s no way out. Other days you fight your way free to a clearing where you rest and your hope is restored.
